Board Certified in Pediatrics, Pulmonary, and Sleep Medicine

Dr. Saito received his medical degree from Temple University  School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pa., and completed his residency at Orlando Regional Health System, Orlando, Fla.  His pediatric pulmonology fellowship was completed at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, N.C.   His sleep training was completed at Cook Children's Medical Center, Fort Worth, TX.

Dr. Saito was an assistant professor at Texas A&M School of Medicine and the director of Pediatric Pulmonary and Allergy at Scott & White Hospital in Texas.  He specializes in the care of children with respiratory disorders such as asthma, chronic lung disease of prematurity, and obstructive sleep apnea along with all disorders of sleep including restless leg syndrome and insomnia.

Dr. Saito feels that living well comes from breathing well and sleeping well.  He states, "breathing problems and illnesses rarely go to sleep when you or your child does. Disruptions of restorative sleep often results in impairment in daytime brain function of both children and adults."

Dr. Saito is especially keen on finding and fixing what he calls, "TOXIC SLEEP."  This is a scenario where sleep disruption due to disordered breathing plus hypoxia (lack of oxygen) leads to global health failure.  He likens this to drinking dirty water contaminated by lead (known toxin).  Studies show a reduction in the length of life by as much as 10 years when sleep apnea with hypoxia was not treated.

In summary, when sleep problems are correctly identified and addressed, children and adults not only get more sleep, they get better quality sleep and live longer healthier lives.  Thus, optimization of our restoration drive through better sleep health not only is essential to getting more life in our days, but also helps us get more days in our life.
