Asthma is one of the most common chronic respiratory disorder that affects children and the elderly.

Asthma is caused by inflammation in the airways leading to airway narrowing and resulting in symptoms that can be mild such as cough.

However, if asthma is unrecognized and uncontrolled, the airway constriction can worsen, leading to wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, respiratory distress, and even respiratory failure.

If you have asthma, think of your lungs as a forest.  When you are well, the forest is lush and everything is normal.  However, when your asthma acts up, a forest fire has developed and if left unrecognized or unattended, that forest can develop into a raging
forest fire in your lungs.

Dr. Saito believes that staying up to date with advancing understanding of different types of asthma is essential to diagnosing and effectively treating children and adults with asthma.

Comprehensive lung function testing is available to help Dr. Saito diagnose children (as young as 3 years old) and adults with asthma or other lung diseases.
